Students in both elementary and middle are having fun exploring careers and finding out where their skills and interests meet. Look for class activities being sent home and ask your students what jobs/careers they are learning about. Some of the 1st grade students favorites so far include: Veterinarian, Construction worker, Archeologist, Artist, Teacher, Chef, Police Officer, Farmer, Baseball Player, Soccer Player, Cashier, Doctor and Gym Teacher.

From Rock the Block to Meet and Greet and almost through the first day of school...we are off to a great start of the 2017-2018 school year! It is so good to see smiling faces ready for new challenges and adventures! It is also wonderful to be adding so many fresh faces to the Bulldog family! As the school year gets going, please don't hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can help with! The best way to reach me is via email: [email protected].
"When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world." ~Harold Kushner1/6/2017 Welcome back! This January, our character trait of the month is Caring. During Guidance this week we talked about what it means to be caring, what are some other words that describe the character trait of caring, how we demonstrate that, and why it is important to be caring towards others. Ask your children in grades 5k-5th where we went on an in-school field trip and what caring has to do with beachballs! :)
This year I started mixing it up for lunch! On Tuesdays I randomly pick 2 students from grades 6, 7 and 8 to come eat lunch in my room. On Wednesdays I eat with a mix of k5, 1st and 2nd graders. On Thursdays, 3rd, 4th and 5th-graders join me. This is a great time for all! We learn about one another on a different level, have some laughs and play a quick game before heading out for recess.
It's UR Choice!
This week in Guidance, grades 4 through 8 will be diving into an interactive program that will help them make smart choices when faced with the pressures of using and abusing alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. This program is aligned with national health education standards and is developed using evidence based or informed research. Mrs. Hegemann and I will be team teaching grades 6-8 this unit during our scheduled Health time. This month in Guidance Classes K5-3, students will be participating in a program called Mission:Health, created by Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The students will establish healthy habits and increase physical activity. They will learn about eating right, staying fit and feeling good about their bodies. This particular program is done on the Smart Board, which students LOVE because they can move around and interact during class. Look for handouts and ask your students what they have been learning and how they can teach you to be a healthier you!
Join K-kids, Builders-Club/Student Council, National Junior Honor Society and middle school band students at the Elder Care Cottages, December 10th at 6 pm to come and share the holiday joy with the residents.
Parents are welcome to stay and sing with us or just relax and listen! *Meet at 7711 Big Bend Road, Waterford. Students will start at the first Yellow cottage to sing carols and finish by 7 pm at the Blue Cottage. Hope to see you there! :) Meet and Greet on this past Thursday night was a big success! It was exciting to see so many new faces! It was even more exciting to see all the familiar smiling faces, that I missed over the summer! I can't express in words how happy I am to be starting my 2nd year here at Washington-Caldwell!
This year I will be at school on the same days: Tuesday/Thursday 8:00-4:00 and Wednesday/Friday 8:00-12:00, or by appointment. Unfortunately, I will not be in middle-school classrooms each week this year, but I will be working with the classroom teachers to fit in current events, careers, and other important topics. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. The best way to reach me is to email me at [email protected]. Go Bulldogs! Returning from winter break, students will be discussing what it looks like to set goals during their Guidance class. By setting goals, students can improve their academic performance, increase their motivation to achieve, increase pride and satisfaction in their performance and ultimately improve their self-confidence. When I asked students why people set goals, the majority response I received was "to become a better person." Here at Washington-Caldwell, we will be starting 2014 with a fresh start! Students were asked to set an academic goal as well as a personal goal... Feel free to ask them about their goal setting process! |
